Hard To Fit Contacts vs Regular Contacts

Eyes that are “hard to fit” for contacts means that regular, soft contacts either won't fit well or that they'll need to be configured a certain way due to an eye condition you have. Our optometrist at Advanced Optical in Orlando, FL, can fit you with hard to fit contacts if you want to give them a try.

Why Hard-to-Fit Contacts Exist

Regular contact lenses rest on your eyeball. If you have a condition that causes your corneas to be a different shape or have a condition like severe dry eye, a regular lens is either not going to fit or will irritate your eye. In either case, regular soft contacts will not be suitable for you. To address this, there are many different types of contacts available today that can be worn by people with irregular corneas or dry eye syndrome.

That's really all there is to it. These lenses fit differently so that they don't irritate your eye or aggravate another condition. Fittings are essentially the same as they are for regular lenses, although you'll have to be more alert to any irritation during your test-wearing phase.

Some of the conditions that require hard to fit contacts include:

  • Dry eye syndrome
  • Astigmatism
  • Giant papillary conjunctivitis
  • Keratoconus

During a contact lens exam, our optometrist will help you find out if regular soft contacts are suitable for your eyes or if you will need hard to fit contacts.
